Haven’t posted to Oppo in nearly a year, so here we go. My 500 is starting to edge close to 80k miles, and I’m feeling itchy for something different-ish...but I still like the car. So I found this 500e, which has somehow found it’s way to Texas. I’m thinking it’d be different enough that I’d be content for a while, but it’s still my favorite brand and car, somewhat, with a lot less miles. Problem is, I owe around 7k on my current 500, and at best it’s worth maybe 5k, and I’ve got three years left on the loan for it. So I’m torn.
Pic is of my current. Cept now the hood stripe is gone and the wheels are orange. :)

Keep it til it’s paid off. Then drive it for 5 more years or until the engine/transmission shits out.

I could definitely do that, I just get bored having the same car for years on end.

You could go Bolt...Roll the 2k into the new loan and be out the door with about 32k debt.

I’m with the other guy. If you want to go into debt just buy another car. Something from the 80s.

How’s your wrenching skills? Maybe get a beater/project with cash to keep things interesting while you pay off the Fiat.

My son told me today he wants to get a car the nobody wants. I asked him why, he said he wanted gears for his parts collection. I asked if we could get a car that didn’t work right and make it work...He said no I just want gears. I’m hoping this clears up soon.

They’re...average. And that’s what I’ve done for the last several years. But I always end up selling the project after 6 months to a year, I’m an impatient sort. Unless it’s something I really love.

Nahh, I promised myself I’d never fall into the new trap of a new car again. Slightly used? Sure. Beat to death? Sure. New, so that I can get the depreciation boning...no sir.

You make a point. There aren’t nearly enough Italian cars on the roads.

Just out of curiosity, why the 80's?

I am thoroughly confused as to what is going on there.

In all fairness your particular car receives one of the worst depreciation bindings there is especially with that many miles.

Truth. Nice thing about the 500e I was looking at, it looks like the depreciation bit during the lease. Can’t get much cheaper and still work.

Idk I just love 80s cars. Plus a lot of cool 80s cars are starting to go up in value. So say for example you bought a Chrysler Conquest or Starion. There is a chance that in a few years it’ll be be worth what you’ve put into it.

I haven’t been too worried about it when buying a new car that’s only 30k or so. I’m planning on buying something fun like a corvette or viper, and that I would never buy new.

That’s what I thought when I saw the story about them on Jalopnik. If they were available in Indiana in a decent amount I would look at getting one.

Especially considering those 500e’s are wholesaling for $4200.

For the price they are going for it might be worth a road trip!

It would take far too long to get back home with a range of only 84 miles or I would seriously consider it.

Busy busy working. Also, I took up kayak fishing, got serious playing with guns, and most important, dealing with being a dad twice over since last Feb. (suspiciously the last time I posted was last Feb.)

True. Sadly about the only 80's car I have interest in is a DeLorean :)

I’ve got some more words: I don’t think my XJ has got that in it. Which means for the price of renting all of that and going to get one it would almost be worth getting it through Carmax and having one moved here.

Makes sense. If you could find one at a Carmax, anyway.

There are several at Carmax. However that start out at over $10k.

No, not for an electric car with a very usable range.
